Category: The Truth about Missionaries and Missionary Life

Lately I have desired to move forward but really seemed I was moving backwards.  In my morning prayers I cried out to God and He began to speak to me about somethings and being obedient to what He said I am writing this.

Over the years I have had leaders that mentored me,  great men of God I saw many lives changed around them. There was a sense that wherever they walked God was there and something was about to change, something was going to move. It was great being apart of what God was doing with these men. One of these men was Bertist Rouse a man after God’s own heart. Bertist started IGO International Gospel Outreach and I was the first missionary with IGO of which I am a member now. Bertist was a great teacher his messages were simple following a 1,2,3 etc. steps. Mostly about being a disciple of Christ and missions. View full article »

Love for Ministry

I love what I do as a missionary here in is a danger to love more the ministry than Jesus. If we give ourselves to ministry, that is, service to God above God we make an idol of ministry.  For this reason I have added to this blog and my heart my core values the first being intimacy with Jesus without it ministry will come from me and I alone have nothing to give to people. Without Christ I can do nothing but in Christ i can do all things.  Love for Christ must come before ministry. Sorry to say I have seen pastors who love their ministry and are so busy in ministry they tell me “I don’t have time to pray or study my Bible” What they begin to give to the people is repetition, old songs, old sermons and dead things to those who follow, it becomes boring to be a Christian. Only Christ gives life and His life only flows from us as we spent time with Him.

My prayer is let me not love my ministry above you JESUS  my all.

Love Christ above all!

Are all Christians Missionaries

Did you know that the word MISSIONARY is not in the Bible, that’s right. The closest word for missionary in the Bible is Apostle. The definition of the word Apostle according to Strongs Hebrew-Greek dictionary is the following.

G649 ἀποστέλλω
apostellō
ap-os-tel’-lo
From G575 and G4724; set apart, that is, (by implication) to send out (properly on a mission) literally or figuratively: – put in, send (away, forth, out), set [at liberty].

In the true sense of the word missionary, not all Christian’s are missionaries. As not all are called to be pastors, not all were called to be Apostles not all are called to be missionaries.

Do all Christians have a mission? YES

Is the great commission for all Christians? YES

Mat 28:19  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Mat 28:20  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Is the Great Commission  for all Christians definitely YES!

There are several ways to look at this.

1. We are all called to GO so you must be called to stay where you are because you are already called to GO!  Have you left yet?

2. Or the great commission is directed to the CHURCH and as Paul and Barnabas were set apart to GO the church today must set apart some to GO. Remember the commission is to all nations (all ethnic groups) one missionary can never physically reach all nations so the CHURCH must send out many many missionaries, while the rest pray for and support the ones that GO.

3. All are called to GO and make disciples? YES to your family, neighbors, town or city, state, country and to the utmost parts of the earth. In other words start where you are and as God opens the doors you walk through them.

Any way you want to look at it you have a mission God has given you abilities, gifting, talents, education all to be used in HIS Kingdom. Whether you are a factory worker, doctor, teacher etc you are in the mission field, all around you are lost people. You are an epistle the gospel is written in your heart and life you can preach with your life and sometimes with your mouth.

Missionaries are people too

Never feel sorry for a missionary we are privileged to service the King of Kings! but we are not supermen and women we just serve a SUPER GOD.

  1. We hurt
  2. We get sick
  3. We feel lonely at times
  4. We fail (much more than you will know)
  5. We have disagreements with other missionaries ( the greatest factor in attrition on the mission field is missionaries not getting along. Why? It take people with strong character to reach the missions field, so sometimes we do butt heads.  Hey Paul did!
  6. Missionaries can be territorial. Hey I’m working here you go over there!
  7. Sometimes we spend all day sometimes days waiting in lines to get a piece of paper that gives us permission to ask for another piece of paper so we can apply for permission to stay in a country a month or year more. (RED TAPE)
  8. Most of the time we are the minority. Think about it.
  9. US missionaries if living out of the States for more than six month get no earned income credit and pay taxes and social security total amount. personally When I live in the States for over six months I get money back from IRS but living in Mexico I pay.
  10. Sometimes we make enemies who try to get us kicked out of the country. I have and they have tried, I’m still here.
  11. We take risks sometimes to prosper and sometimes to fail.
  12. We have family issues just like you. We work through them with God just like you do.
  13. A lot of these are negative but the positive far out weigh the negative.
  14. We are privileged in getting to know many beautiful people, beautiful countries, to be used of God to reach out to people with the gospel, people who otherwise would not hear the goodnews.
  15. What a honor to serve the Lord and be sent out by loving brothers and sister from our home country, culture and family.

We are no different than or better than our brothers and sisters in Christ back home just called to do what Christ has called us all to do but in another country, culture and language.

The next question I want to deal with is Are all Christians missionaries?
